Did you know that one out of every three bites of food we eat every day, not to mention all of the planet’s herbs, nuts, flowers and plant life that keep us healthy, is due to the honey bee and its ingenious pollination process? You may have heard about the Bees’ demise, suspected to be a result of pesticide use in conventional farming. There’s even an alarming new syndrome called Colony Collapse Disorder, where entire honey bee communities vanish without a trace. Aveda is a huge fan of honey bees as many of the ingredients in our products come from pollination such as the lavender oil in our Stress Fix line. To help protect honey bees, Aveda has been housing their very own colony of bees which follows organic principles from the University of Minnesota Bee Squad. Things you can do to help: Buy organic pesticide-free produce. The stronger the organic food movement gets, the louder the message we send that we do not want toxic bee-killing chemicals sprayed on our food. Plant bee-friendly organic flowers and plants in your gardens or window boxes to give bees a safe place to buzz around. Stay tuned for more on Avedas Bee saving efforts! Beauty is as Beauty Does.
